Tim Gallaudet, Ph.D., USN Ret., the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and Acting Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere, delivered the Keynote Speech at the 2018 Blue Tech Week in San Diego. In this address, Gallaudet delivered a comprehensive look inside his agencies priorities for the coming year and declared the first half of the 21st century as the "Ocean Age".

The Bureau of Industry and Security has released an advanced notice of proposed rule making (ANPRM) in the Federal Register on controls for emerging technologies. To help inform this process, this ANPRM proposes several general areas for public comment. Given the challenges involved in identifying emerging and foundational technologies, this ANPRM will help Commerce and other agencies propose specific emerging technologies for control. The deadline to submit comments is now January 10, 2019.

The Government of Honduras has recently signaled its intent to upgrade security measures within the Honduran ports system and is specifically looking for a U.S consultancy to oversee the projects. The government has confirmed that it already has the financial resources in place to support security upgrades, adoption of the BASC principles, as well as other infrastructure projects.

The Boating Industry Association Ltd (BIA) is the voice of the recreational and light commercial marine industry. On behalf of its members, it promotes safe, recreational boating as a positive and regarding lifestyle for Australians. The BIA gets Australians onto the water, through the manufacture, wholesale or retail of products and services to the recreational boating consumer, and light commercial marine operators.
Apart from organizing great shows, the BIA provides a forum to discuss industry needs, problems and solutions and serves as the representative of the industry to Federal, State and Local Government departments and agencies, as well as other industry bodies, corporate interests, allied organisations, media and the public.
The Sydney International Boat Show will be divided into different sections with different events. The Boating Safety Zone is where boaties go to get the latest information about recreational boating. This area is presented by Transport for NSW and Roads & Maritime Services. Good boating is safe boating. Liquid Robotics builds ocean-going robots that operate autonomously at sea, harnessing the ocean’s energy for propulsion and employing solar panels to power computer and communications systems. The robots have various applications in the defense and security, environmental assessment and offshore energy sectors.
The company has been working with the U.S. Commercial Service to expand its presence overseas. Gary Gysin, CEO, credits U.S. Commercial Service programs with helping Liquid Robotics expand sales into both Indonesia and Australia, among other locations, and mentions that the company’s overseas partnerships and international revenue contributed to their recent acquisition by the Boeing Corporation.

The Government of Argentina is tendering a 50-year term concession for the Buenos Aires Port operations. The tender calls for consolidating services under a sole operator from the current three concessionaires.
The long-term plan includes design and development of three terminals: an external cargo terminal, a public terminal and a cruise terminal.
Bids are scheduled to be opened on October 2nd with the concession awarded in December 2019.
