Chile is known as one of the safest and well-developed countries in Latin America, and since the late 1990s, has increasingly privatized its public utilities to increase environmental friendliness and efficacy.

The Chilean Piñera Administration is focused on expanding infrastructure, including expansion of freight transport networks and a rail freight system. Already, the country has invested more than $10 billion for a new public transportation system. Additionally, a $2.76 billion project to expand Santiago de Metro is underway. Total investment in Chilean infrastructure will be $7.6 billion by 2022. In the energy infrastructure sector, the country is making moves to free itself from dependence on hydropower, expending into renewable energy source.
