Event Summary:
On March 22, 2018 the U.S. Commercial Service hosted a webinar briefing on BREXIT. The name of the webinar is BREXIT Update: Implications for U.S. Exports to the United Kingdom and the European Union.

The United Kingdom has set March 29, 2019 as the official date for withdrawal from the European Union. Negotiations with the European Union as to the terms of the withdrawal are currently focused on: 1) the U.K.'s outstanding financial obligation to the EU; 2) the post-Brexit status of the border between Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic; and 3) the status of UK/EU citizens living across the post-Brexit borders. The two sides are seeking to conclude agreement on these initial three areas in December 2017, which would pave the way for subsequent negotiations on the post-Brexit trade relationship between the UK and EU. The UK Government has reached an uneasy internal political consensus that a transition period of up to two years will be required after March 2019 to fully implement the exit from the EU – a time period most observers view as insufficient. Regardless of timelines and negotiating outcomes, this major policy event will have potentially dramatic implications for American exporters to Europe. In addition to the ongoing Brexit negotiations, the U.S. and the United Kingdom held the second meeting of the U.S.-UK Trade and Investment Working Group in London on November 13-14, to continue discussions on ways to ensure commercial continuity and strengthen two-way trade ahead of Britain's March 2019 exit from the European Union. The working group is also laying the groundwork for a potential post-Brexit bilateral U.S.-UK free trade agreement.

U.S. companies participating on this webinar will learn about current developments with Brexit and how this will impact business with the United Kingdom and with the European Union with a focus on industry sector implications.
