Being a part of the team at the Sacramento U.S. Export Assistance Center has been an educational and rewarding experience. During the internship I was tasked with recording and responding to client e-mails, calendaring appointments with clients and partners, and tracking performance of our obligations toward those clients and partners. Through supporting the Sacramento U.S. Export Assistance Center, I gained valuable training and experience in interacting with clients, managing to-do lists, and streamlining as well as prioritizing operations. The internship has also introduced me to many of the services available to U.S. small businesses through the Commercial Service and other government agencies. The exposure to the different industry sectors has also expanded my knowledge of international trade. Overall, my experience as an intern has made me a more competitive and well-rounded candidate for a career in international business.

This internship has provided an opportunity for me to develop professional skills and has given me a valuable experience in international trade consulting at a federal level. I was able to assist Director Tastard in working with many different clients and it was interesting to observe the procedures of international export promoting services at the Department of Commerce. I believe that from this experience I have become a more capable worker who can effectively manage and support their team members in an office setting. I would recommend this internship to anyone seeking an intense training opportunity to gain transferable office skills and a chance to learn more about export assistance on a federal level.

The internship has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have had throughout my college career. I look back at how I was in the beginning and how I am now and can say I am a totally different person. I am confident that I can do anything I set my mind to. The internship gave me great motivation to push harder, work longer, ask for help when needed, and build more confidence when faced with a challenge.
I gained an entire knowledge and skill base that I would have never learned without participating in this internship. What you put into this internship you definitely get out of it. Throughout this internship, I developed better communication skills, learned how to succeed in a professional environment and was trained with hands on experience that helped provide me with a great deal of analytical knowledge and awareness of current developments in international trade and business.

The amount of knowledge and confidence I’ve gained through this experience is sure to benefit me in my post-graduate endeavors.
While the internship required a tremendous amount of time, dedication and hard work to keep up with the demands of the USEAC, I view the experience as an invaluable investment in my future career, whatever that may be. Interning for the U.S. Department of Commerce in Sacramento, California is one of the best experiences I have ever had. Working with Director George Tastard and my colleagues at the U.S. Export Assistance Center in Sacramento is an experience I will never forget. The internship is not for everyone trying to get a “glimpse” of what the real world is like; it’s for students who want to get their hands dirty and dive into the world of international business and international trade. It surpassed all of my expectations in every aspect, and allowed me to manage my own time accordingly with the clients I was delegated.
