The U.S. Commercial Service is looking for dedicated professionals to add to its complement of 250 Foreign Service Officers serving in Embassies and Consulates around the globe.  Foreign Commercial Service Officers are commissioned Foreign Service Officers who carry out a wide variety of critical functions and work with a broad spectrum of government and private sector organizations to articulate, develop and refine United States commercial policy, promote U.S. exports and to protect U.S. commercial interests abroad.

The Assessment is the competitive process used to select the next generation of commercial diplomats to serve in U.S. Embassies and Consulates abroad.  Exceptional applicants that pass the initial online application process will be invited to take part in a day-long examination in spring 2015 to determine their suitability to join America’s primary export/inward investment promotion agency.  Only a small percentage of those that apply are chosen.

To be considered, candidates must:

  • Possess a BA or BS degree.
  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Be between the ages of 21 and 59
  • Be available for a worldwide assignment and be willing to relocate approximately every 3-4 years.
  • Be able to obtain Medical and Top Secret Security clearances and pass a drug test.

Please keep in mind, the application process is designed to take several hours. Exceptions to deadline of December 19, 2014 will not be granted for technical difficulties experienced by an applicant's personal technology devices and/or network.
