ADB is a multilateral financial institution, which aims to improve the living standards of its Developing Member Countries (DMCs) throughout the Asia and Pacific region. ADB business opportunities arise primarily in the following sectors, where ADB actively funds development projects:
ADB’s 2017 loan commitments reached US $19 billion. In addition, ADB provided US $287 million in equity investments; US $595 million in grants; and US $201 million in technical assistance (TA).
In 2017, India was the largest recipient of total ADB assistance with $6 billion. China was second with $3.5 billion; Pakistan was third with $3.3 billion; Bangladesh - a close fourth with $3.2 billion; and Indonesia was fifth with $3 billion.
Additionally, Energy received the largest share at US $11 billion (34%), followed by Finance with US $7 billion (22%). Transport received US $6.8 billion (21%). Water and other urban infrastructure services got US $1.9 billion (6%). Agriculture and Natural Resources had US $1.8 billion (5.6%). Public sector management had US $1.7 million (5.3%). Education, Industry and Trade, Health, as well as ICT stood at US $1.2 million (3.7%), US $0.6 million (1.7%), and $0.23 million (0.7%), respectively.
