Internship

The US Commercial Service Belgium offers internship opportunities to qualified students throughout the year.

What you would be doing

The U.S. Commercial Service assists U.S. exporters entering the Belgian market and helps Belgian firms in their efforts to partner with American companies either by representing American manufacturers, utilizing American products, or through joint venture arrangements. To support these objectives, the office analyses information on Belgian market opportunities and barriers, facilitates contacts with Belgian businesses, promotes US products in the Belgian marketplace, and advocates for US business interests. The Commercial Service also assists Belgian companies wishing to invest in the United States.

Interns assist Commercial Specialists by:

  • collecting and analyzing information for market research reports
  • responding to enquiries from U.S. exporters and Belgian buyers or distributors
  • assisting in the organization of trade events and trade missions
  • various administrative support
  • creating content for Commercial Service website

Who is eligible?

In order to participate in this program you must meet the following qualifications:

  • enrollment in an American or Belgian university or business school
  • U.S. or EU citizenship
  • fluency in English language; French or Dutch skills helpful
  • availability for at least 12 weeks (Mon-Fri 38hr week)
  • excellent communication and computer skills

Students of Business, International Relations, Economics, and Languages will benefit most from an internship at the Commercial Service. Students must be American or EU citizens.

Compensation

This internship is a volunteer service. Federal regulations prohibit financial compensation. An official letter of recommendation will be provided following successful completion of the internship. Most Universities will award 3-6 credits for a completed internship; please speak with your school’s administration to confirm.

How to apply

You should apply at least 6 months prior to your preferred start date. Your application must include:

  • Cover Letter: Why you want to be an intern, what you have to offer and how you hope to benefit from the internship.
  • CV/Resume: Future goals, language and business software (Word, Excel, Power Point)-skills, past experience, including academic accomplishments, citizenship, student status.
