Administrative Copyright Enforcement in Shenzhen

Download the full video (25 MB)

In this webinar, you will understand how the Shenzhen Market Supervision Management Bureau has issued a $42 million administrative penalty against online video app QVOD (Kuaibo) for permitting the illegal streaming and downloading works that were monetized via advertising. Not only is the amount of the penalty unusually large for China, this decision is unique because it is administrative enforcement of copyright. Andrea Caballe, an IP lawyer at Schmitt-Orlov in Beijing, discusses the case and how this decision might be a model for U.S. companies to use in enforcing copyright in Shenzhen and (possibly) elsewhere in China.
