How the Cost of Corrosion Affects People, Assets & the Environment? The NACE East Asia & Pacific Area Conference will be held from August 16-18, 2016 in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.  The theme of the conference this year will be “How the Cost of Corrosion Affects People, Assets & the Environment”.  This conference is aimed at cooperation and sharing of product standards and knowledge.  These collaborations on standards and product knowledge will help ASEAN move closer to its goal of economic integration, as envisioned in the ASEAN Economic Community.

Established in 1943, NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers based in Houston, Texas - http://www.nace.org/About-NACE/) is one of ITA’s global partners and they are the global authority on corrosion which cuts across many industries.  It is a worldwide problem that affects many different aspects of life, including the maritime sector, roads and bridges, power generation, and drinking water.  As the demand for infrastructure and facilities grows, corrosion is an important factor to be considered to reduce costs and make projects more sustainable.  Deterioration of material or its properties due to different environmental conditions can lead to dangerous and expensive accidents resulting in economic loss and downtime.  Corrosion is estimated to cost the world the equivalent of 3.4 percent of its GDP, according to a study by the corrosion organization NACE International.

Offices of the US Commercial Service in the region are working with NACE to promote this event to increase the facts on corrosion and to help introduce uniform standards on corrosion prevention within the ASEAN region.

CS Malaysia will be the lead and point of contact will be Randall Liew (Randall.Liew@trade.gov)
