Event Summary:
The Indonesia aviation industry continues to grow and develop. In August 2016, Indonesia regained Category One status with the FAA, opening up the opportunity for future direct flights between the United States and Indonesia. In the meantime, President Jokowi is emphasizing economic and tourism growth outside of Java leading to commercial aviation growth domestically. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), by 2034 it is expected to be the sixth largest market for air travel. By then some 270 million passengers are expected to fly to, from and within the country, three times the size of today's market. IATA also predicts that this year Indonesia global air cargo volume will grow 4.5 percent to 53.5 million tons, up slightly from last year's 4.3 percent growth. This growth will create demand for products in all commercial aviation subsectors, including aircraft and spare parts, maintenance, airport design, engineering, and construction, air traffic management equipment and consulting and aviation security equipment.

In the last few months, the leadership in Indonesia aviation sector was dynamic. Former President Director of State Owned Enterprise Angkasa Pura II (AP II) Mr. Budi Karya was appointed as Minister of Transportation which caused a change of leadership in the agency. Similarly, Angkasa Pura 1, PT Air Navigation, Garuda Indonesia airline have new President Directors. Thus, please consider participating in the AWG to make vital contacts, learn the latest trends and maintain your companies' high profile in this promising market.
