Internship with the U.S. Commercial Service!

The U.S. Commercial Service is an experienced, leading edge, worldwide organization helping American firms meet the challenges of the global economy. The San Jose U.S. Export Assistance Center is always looking for bright and energetic individuals to join our internship team. We offer students a year-round volunteer internship program to gain invaluable practical business experience in the field of international trade.

The US Commercial Service has over 100 offices in the United States and in over 80 different countries overseas. Our goal is to promote the growth of U.S. trade on a global basis through the development and delivery of marketing and promotion services to American manufacturers, distributors and service providers.

Daily Intern Activities:

Interns become involved in the daily operational aspects of managing a high-activity office. Interns support the office staff with event planning, counseling U.S. companies, website management, market research, etc. They will also learn how to use the U.S. Commercial Service’s information databases to access economic and market trends and data to support the office’s client activities. Once interns have experience, they also will have the opportunity to develop export marketing and sales strategies with the goal of identifying channels of distribution and penetrating new markets for U.S. exporters.

Internship Eligibility:

Intern candidate must be a U.S. citizen. He/she must be able to communicate in a professional environment and be enthusiastic and willing to learn. Any major is appropriate if the candidate wants to learn how to market and sell U.S. products in overseas markets. The minimum time commitment is for six (6) months with 16 hours per week.

Major areas of study:

Economics, Political Science, Public Administration, Law, International Relations, Marketing, Foreign Language, Communications, Sociology, Geography, Anthropology, and History majors are encouraged to apply. Any major is appropriate if students want to learn how to market and sell U.S. products abroad.
